It’s my birthday, so I thought I would do a fun post today. 🙂
I think I’ve mentioned before how much I love old-school PC role playing games… If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing the Quest for Glory series, I highly recommend it. You can even download a reboot of Quest for Glory II for free! (Mac & PC versions available.)
Anyway, I just thought I would share some of the life lessons I’ve learned during my Quest for Glory adventures:
Just because you can stick something up your nose doesn’t mean you should.
A fun little trick in Quest for Glory I allowed thief types to practice their lock picking skills by picking their nose. However, if your character wasn’t good enough at lock picking to begin with, this would result in fatal consequences:
Always mind your Ps and Qs.
You never know when the poet on the street corner will turn out to be the sultan, and some sorceresses can be really picky about manners. Either way, it’s usually a good idea to be polite. It can really pay off in the long run, especially when the sultan is in the mood to adopt an heir. 😉
Oversized waffles are a balanced part of an adventurer’s diet.
Adventurers need to carb load to keep up their energy. Otherwise, all that monster crushing and problem solving can get exhausting. Big, syrupy waffles can help when you’re feeling depleted.
If you happen to be wandering the savanna of East Fricana and have run out of food, keep an eye out for Awful Waffle Walkers. These indigenous creatures offer no resistance and will chase you down until you devour them.
Never swim with a Rusalka.
OK, this should be a no-brainer, but for those of you not familiar with Slavic mythology, the Rusalka is bad news. I know, she can be pleasant to look at, and she’ll be very persuasive, but don’t let that fool you. Unless you’re a Paladin, she will drown your sorry ass without a second thought.
Consider yourself warned.
Never lose your thirst for adventure.
You’ve got to keep pushing yourself, and find new ways to get more out of life. Otherwise, you could end up a washed up professor for a backwoods adventurer correspondence school, living all alone, and sleeping most of your life away. You don’t want that, do you? Well, get out there and start doing stuff!
Squee! I just found out that the creators of Quest for Glory are considering using Kickstarter to fund a new game in the series! It’s still a little early for details, but I’m super-excited. 😀
Happy adventuring!
