I figured I would post something a little lighter today. All joking aside, I love The Chronicles of Narnia. If you’re a fantasy fan, they’re definitely worth the read. 🙂
What The Chronicles of Narnia taught me:
Turkish delight should be avoided at all costs.
When I first read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, I had no idea what this Turkish delight stuff was all about. In fact, I’m still not really clear on what it is or why it’s worth enslaving yourself to a witch to get more.
The closest I’ve gotten is watching my husband eat a Big Turk bar, which I never thought looked especially appetizing. I haven’t noticed that he’s become more tractable after eating one… Still, it doesn’t seem worth the risk.
Talking mice can be badass.
Usually when you think of talking mice, images of Mickey, Fivel, or maybe Muffy from Today’s Special come to mind. (If you didn’t grow up watching TVOntario, you really missed out. Today’s Special was awesome!)
My point is, talking mice are usually all cutesy and/or vulnerable with their whole Small Creature vs. Big World thing going on. Well, Reepicheep doesn’t let his small stature stop him from becoming a kick-ass warrior and explorer. He even leads his fellow mice into battle and is braver than most humans. He is by far one of my favorite characters in the Narnia series.
Thinking you’re too cool for something means you’ll probably miss out.
If you’ve read The Last Battle, you know who I’m talking about. If you haven’t, I’m sure you know someone who thought they were above certain activities or interests.
You know, like those people who are ‘too mature’ to read kids’ books. Then they see the Harry Potter movies and find themselves reading all the books and loving them. 😉 If the movies had never been made, they probably wouldn’t have read the books and they would have missed out on a great experience.
On a somewhat related note, it drives me nuts that I can’t watch Lazy Sunday on Youtube here in Canada. I mean, come on. We get SNL here when it airs live, but certain recorded videos from the show can’t be played outside the US?? (Thanks for stepping up, Dailymotion.)
